“Where Monsters Hide” - The Commie Ninjas

The Commie Ninjas are a four-peice alternative rock band located in St.Johns who recently released “Where Monsters Hide”, the follow-up to there 2005 Album “Stay Out of the Woods”. This album contains 11 well-constructed songs including the immensely catchy “Shut Up and Dance”, and the very relaxing “Learn to Spin”.
According to singer/guitarist Liam Peacock explained the album in a interview with the Scope as “It’s going to be the Commie Ninjas set-up that you’re familiar with, but with piano, banjo, and Tibetan singing bowl,”. These instruments all add a notable sound to the tracks, which sounds great.
The percussion on this album is more than effective, and a very good guitar tone from both guitars. The recording quality on this album is one of the best I’ve seen from a local act, showcasing very good talent from Album Producer Mike Gear.
I’m personally a fan of this album, especially tracks like previously-mentioned “Shut Up and Dance”, and “Hallucinate”. Overall, I think this CD is a new start for these guys, and hope that I hear new things from these guys in the future.
